The Arc GP/HW was founded in 1963 by parents of children with developmental disabilities. Our chapter is affiliated with The Arc of the United States, which was founded in 1950 and is the national organization of and for people with developmental disabilities and their families.

We are here to provide support to persons with intellectual disabilities and their families. Currently, we provide the following for our community:

1. Own two group homes for persons with intellectual disabilities

2. Financial support for respite care

3. Financial support for scholarships for special equipment or experiences

4. Recreational activities through dances, movies and the F.R.I.E.N.D. events

5. Access to help finding services

6. Support for Full Circle to promote economic independence through job experiences

7. Advocacy services (assistance finding help to get what you think you need)

8. Financial assistance to attend conferences

9. Support of athletic experiences through GP/HW Community Special Olympics
