Respite Care through Arc GP/HW
The Arc GP/HW offers a Respite Reimbursement Program that directly reimburses our members for their respite costs!
The Respite Reimbursement program began in 2003 to help our chapter's member families with a small portion of the costs they incur for respite care. Since beginning the program, The Arc GP/HW has reimbursed $16,248 in respite care! In 2008, the Board decided the program would accept 20 families and reimburse up to $320 to each family (broken down, it calculates to 40 hours of respite care at $8 per hour). For many families, the $320 maximum allows them respite for one meeting each month or for one evening out of every other month, or possibly being able to attend a conference while their child is cared for at home. It is the family's choice as to how they utilize their respite reimbursement, but all seem thrilled to receive it.
This is not a financial need-based program. The Respite Reimbursement Program is a benefit of your membership in Arc GP/HW. Members may select family, friends, nurses or aides to provide care, which may include such things a weekend away, a few hours every Sunday, or having an aide help bathe an adult family member with developmental disabilities. We will also reimburse for care given outside the home at a respite care facility.
As with all of our programs, the Arc GP/HW Board reserves the right to amend, add to, or discontinue any of our programs at any time.
